Since 1926, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra (YSO) has stood as a pillar of culture and community in the Mahoning Valley. Founded by brothers Michael and Carmine Ficocelli, the orchestra presented its first public concert in 1929 and quickly became a fixture at Stambaugh Auditorium. Over the decades, the YSO has delighted audiences with stirring symphonies, timeless classics and unforgettable pops performances that celebrate the joy and power of live music.
Now, under the leadership of the Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium Association, the YSO begins a new chapter — honoring its proud history while shaping an exciting future for generations to come.
A New Era at Stambaugh Auditorium
This season marks the first under the direction of new Music Director Erik Ochsner, whose dynamic artistry and global experience bring renewed energy to the orchestra. The 2025–2026 season will take place at Stambaugh Auditorium, before returning to a dual-venue schedule at both Stambaugh and the DeYor Performing Arts Center in the following year.
The orchestra has also extended its agreement with the American Federation of Musicians Local 86-242, ensuring a strong partnership with its talented musicians through 2027.
